Pizza + Alli = Bad
Thanks to rain storms last night our 4th of July BBQ did not happen as planned. My husband had intended to smoke a brisket (for him) and a fillet of salmon (for me). The weather changed all that, along with my general laziness.
Around 7 p.m., we decided to simply order a pizza. Oh, I’d made a lovely salad to go along with my salmon, but once that pizza arrived the tossed greens with a balsamic dressing didn’t look nearly as good. Unfortunately, I’d already taken my Alli. Let’s just say that makes for a bad combination.
No, I didn’t have to rush to the bathroom nor even be concerned that I was wearing khaki capris, despite easily exceeding the maximum fat intake many times over. I did, however, find myself getting out of bed repeatedly throughout the night. It’s not an experience I want to repeat, but it is nice to know how my body reacts to the combination of Alli plus way too much fat in a meal.
Next time — and I wouldn’t be a Chubby Mommy if there wasn’t a “next time” for eating too much — I’ll be sure to plan ahead and skip my Alli. A girl’s gotta have her pizza, after all.
My one slip up was “unexpected” pizza as well. I was scared to death about what was going to happen (after all, you hear such horror stories) but my treatment effect was rather minor.
Like you I’m not planning on giving up my pizza but I know I have to exercise self control and limit myself to small portions.
And your tip on how to get around the effect of the pills? LALALALA :: fingers in ears :: LALALALA I don’t hear you! LOL!
Comment by Annaliese on July 5, 2007 at 12:13 pmThat works to not take the Alli if you know you are going to be having a high fat excursion? At least you know that it is doing it’s job.

I don’t plan to skip taking mine, to be honest. Well, except maybe tonight: I have two huge, ripe tomatoes on the vine and a handful of basil ready to be picked. I’m making Insalata Caprese which is definitely over the fat limit but oooooh so worth it.
Comment by Chubby Mommy on July 5, 2007 at 12:21 pmAlli has a 1 to 2 hour half-life, so yes, it leaves your system rather quickly. Allowing it to leave your system fully and not taking another before a high fat meal can prevent those “treatment effects” for the times you just know you’re going to pig out.
Comment by Chubby Mommy on July 5, 2007 at 12:29 pmI am hearing a lot of people say this with the Alli. I admit I like pizza, and we have some from time to time probably once every other week ~ I limit my portion but I’ve got to have a slice!
I’ll be watching your progress on this program, I am so interested in it but it doesn’t fit my spending budget right now so I’ll just stick with portioning and trying to get lots of exercise for now, even though I seem to be stuck in a gigantic weight rut.
Comment by Loretta on July 5, 2007 at 2:35 pmI have been on weight watchers for about a month now and plan to start Alli tomorrow. I am scared as all get out about the treatment effects but hope that with my new eating habits they will not be so bad.
Comment by Melissa on July 11, 2007 at 9:59 pmMelissa, I haven’t heard of anyone staying below 15 grams of fat per meal who’s experienced “unwanted treatment effects.” The effects are related to eating too much fat — Alli works to rid your body of the excess and, well, that’s how it comes out.
Just be careful: as I’ve learned, there are hidden fats in all sorts of stuff!
