Fait Accomplia

As a smoker who’s also struggling to lose weight, I’d been hoping for good news from the FDA concerning Accomplia/Zimlti, which was said to help fix both problems.

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to keep waiting. The makers, Sanofi-Aventis, have withdrawn their application for FDA approval.

    Awesome new site!

As for the FDA, better now than six months after approval and a few dozen complaints of death or heart attack or something. :)

See? I really am an optimist. Somewhere. Deep down.

Quite true. This time, the drug apparently causes suicidal ideation. Which makes me wonder if the manufacturers were hoping for a corresponding spike in the sales of ant-depressant meds?

Next time I’ll read the link first (so much for multitasking). Interesting on the depression front, especially with the findings of lowering glucose levels. If they’re even considering marketing it as a diabetic medication it will be a fine line since diabetics are prone to depression. I’ll be interested to see how this plays out.

Interestingly, a French study just reported that rimonabant (generic name for Accomplia) fights obesity-linked liver disease in rats and reversed liver damage.

Sure would be nice to have meds that succeeded at their goals without creating new problems at the same time.
