This is such a great post, and I can definitely relate. When I am attempting to lose some weight, I hate it when people ask how the diets going. It puts pressure on me lol.

Donna, that's not a possibility, that's a certainty. We guys are kinda wired that way.

Oh, and the part about certain activities being far from the fridge? Kinda depends on how frisky you feel, how much privacy you have, and whether or not food is a part of more diet than one. :)

Oh, how true!

I'm not passing that one on to my husband, though. He walked in on today's mini-trampoline workout and, even though he swears otherwise, I'm certain he saw more things bouncing than he expected.

The best thing about sex for a dieter is that it generally happens a long way from the refrigerator.

Surprisingly, I can get the Big-Eyed Boy to eat broccoli. I just have to steam it until he's limp. He'll eat two complete cups of it happily. VH won't touch it at all, though.

I'll give the lime juice on chicken a try. Tonight it's baked catfish. As for the lowfat yogurt, tofu and even quinoa, I actually do those already.

(My favorite quinoa recipe.)

Being careful about what one's eating doesn't really have to mean tasteless bland food.

Drizzling a bit of lime juice and adding some black pepper to that broiled chicken breast might change their minds about it. Steaming the broccoli with lemon juice and a diced-up garlic clove or two might change your son's mind about broccoli, at least if you can feed it to him without his dad being around.

There are substitutes you can use, too, that will lower the amount of bad stuff in what you're eating. Using non-fat yogurt instead of sour cream, tofu in various things where it can be disguised (pretty easy, really), and soy drinks instead of milk can really help. Have you tried quinoa? Use it instead of rice - with a little minced garlic it's wonderful.

My brother-in-law's eating habits have had an absolutely atrocious effect on both his health and the development of both of my nephews. He is grossly morbidly obese, and I can easily see both of the boys going the same way. When we all sat down for a Thanksgiving dinner about three years ago, and my girls asked for second helpings of everything green on the table, they looked at the girls like they were from another planet.

That is such an excellent point! Dieting, after all, amounts to breaking a bad habit of overeating. As with any habit, you can't really get rid of them; you just replace them with others which, hopefully, are better for you.

With that in mind, giving food as a reward to a dieter is a lot like giving "one little gram" of blow to a recovering cokehead.

One of the very few personal improvement mantras I've found:

"The reward for being good can never be permission to be bad."
